Nurtury Early Education’s mission is to give Greater Boston’s youngest children in need the opportunity to reach their full potential by investing in school readiness, promoting healthy development, and strengthening families. At the heart of Nurtury’s mission is ensuring that all children enrolled in its center-based and family child care programs start school with the tools they need for kindergarten success. When our first program opened in 1878, Nurtury became New England’s first early education and care agency. Since then, Nurtury has transformed child care to include high-quality educational programming and family support resources. We embrace a leadership role in the early education field in Boston and statewide, collaborating with fellow providers, and advocating for the early education workforce and for families at the state level. Through our center-based programs and family child care system, we have touched generations of children and their families.
Nurtury Learning Lab
Nurtury Learning Lab opened in October 2015 and is a state-of-the-art facility with LEED Gold Certification. Located in Jamaica Plain, it is the new home of one of the five oldest early childhood education programs in the United States. The program at the Learning Lab incorporates the most creative thinking and evidence-based practices, with the long-term objective of becoming a replicable, national model for delivering early education and comprehensive family services in an urban area. The program serves 112 (birth to five years old) and offers a robust education program that develops children’s social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and language skills. Children who are second language learners are given equal opportunities to succeed in our classrooms. The goal is to have each child on track for success in kindergarten both academically and behaviorally. The center offers a warm and nurturing environment that stimulate the social, emotional and educational well-being of each child, creating an ideal setting for children to be inspired, to learn, and be prepared for Kindergarten. The program is open year round from 7:30 AM - 5:30 PM at 33 Bickford St., Jamaica Plain. It is licensed by the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) and in the process of pursuing accreditation through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). It is managed by a full-time Lead Director and Assistant Program Director, two Family Partners and currently has 11 classrooms inclusive of two UPK, Head Start Preschool, Early Head Start and regular early education and care.
