Nurtury Early Education’s mission is to give Greater Boston’s youngest children in need the opportunity to reach their full potential by investing in school readiness, promoting healthy development, and strengthening families. At the heart of Nurtury’s mission is ensuring that all children enrolled in its center-based and family child care programs start school with the tools they need for kindergarten success.
When our first program opened in 1878, Nurtury became New England’s first early education and care agency. Since then, Nurtury has transformed child care to include high-quality educational programming and family support resources. We embrace a leadership role in the early education field in Boston and statewide, collaborating with fellow providers, and advocating for the early education workforce and for families at the state level. Through our center-based programs and family child care system, we have touched generations of children and their families.
Nurtury Early Education - Horadan Way
Established in 1922, the Ruggles Street/Mission Hill Day Care center became one of the first educational preschools in the nation. Fifty years later, the Gilday Center was established by the Boston Junior League in the middle of the Mission Main housing projects with a purpose to serve abused and neglected children. In 1999, a brand new facility was constructed that brought together both centers under one roof. Now known as Horadan Way, this facility serves infants, toddlers and preschool children. Currently, there are 102 children enrolled at Horadan Way within 8 classrooms inclusive of UPK, Head Start and regular education and care. Led by a full-time Program Director, Assistant Director and Family Partner. Horadan Way has a large indoor gross motor room and new state of the art children’s playground. Enrichment activities include the Young Audiences Music Program. Program Director: Ronda Atkins Martinez Program phone: 857-675-0130; Family Engagement: Bessie Wilkerson, 857-675-0130
